Paramount Pictures has unveiled new details for Children of Blood and Bone, the epic fantasy adventure based on Tomi Adeyemi's internationally bestselling novel. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the film is set to premiere exclusively in theaters, Dolby Cinema, Premium Large Formats, and IMAX on January 15, 2027, bringing the richly imagined world of Orïsha to audiences on the biggest screens possible.

At the heart of the story is Zélie, portrayed by Thuso Mbedu, a determined young woman who embarks on a dangerous quest to restore the magic that was violently stolen from her people. Joined by her brother and two unlikely royal allies, Zélie must challenge a ruthless kingdom whose campaign against magic has left an entire generation fighting for hope, identity, and freedom.

The adaptation boasts one of the most impressive ensemble casts assembled for a fantasy film in recent memory. Alongside Mbedu are Damson Idris, Amandla Stenberg, and Tosin Cole, with standout performances from Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Zackary Momoh, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Regina King, Idris Elba, and Viola Davis. The film also features Saniyya Sidney, Diaana Babnicova, Bukky Bakray, Ayra Starr, Shamz Garuba, Kola Bodunde, Pamilerin Afolake Ayodeji, and Tèmítópé Fágbénlé, creating a cast that spans some of the industry's most celebrated and emerging talent.

Prince-Bythewood, whose previous work has earned acclaim for its emotional storytelling and large-scale action, directs from a screenplay she co-wrote with Adeyemi. Their collaboration aims to faithfully bring the beloved novel to life while expanding its cinematic scope for audiences around the world.

Since its release, Children of Blood and Bone has become one of modern fantasy's defining literary successes. Praised for its immersive world-building, compelling characters, and exploration of power, oppression, resilience, and hope, the novel introduced readers to the magical kingdom of Orïsha and quickly established itself as a global phenomenon.

The film adaptation arrives at a time when audiences continue to embrace expansive fantasy storytelling, and Paramount is positioning the project as a major theatrical event. By releasing the film exclusively in premium theatrical formats, the studio is emphasizing the scale of Orïsha's breathtaking landscapes, magical battles, and cinematic spectacle.

With an acclaimed creative team, a powerhouse cast, and one of fantasy literature's most beloved stories serving as its foundation, Children of Blood and Bone is shaping up to be one of the marquee releases of 2027.

When the journey to Orïsha begins on January 15, 2027, audiences will finally experience Tomi Adeyemi's unforgettable world on the big screen.
