Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video celebrated the upcoming series The Greatest at the 2026 Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival on August 11, unveiling an exclusive first look at the highly anticipated drama and bringing several of the creative forces behind the project together for a conversation about capturing the man behind the legend.
Premiering globally on November 4, 2026, The Greatest is the first authorized scripted series about Ali’s life and will stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
At the center of the series is Jaalen Best, who stars as Cassius Clay and Muhammad Ali, taking on the formidable task of portraying a man whose influence extended far beyond boxing. Ali became a global symbol of athletic greatness, conviction, cultural pride, humanitarianism and the willingness to stand firmly behind his beliefs, even when doing so came at enormous personal cost.
Rather than focusing exclusively on the victories and defeats that made Ali one of the greatest athletes of all time, The Greatest promises a more intimate examination of his life in and outside the ring. With unprecedented access and the full support of Ali’s widow, Lonnie Ali, the series has an opportunity to explore the relationships, choices, contradictions and private experiences behind a public figure known around the world.
That perspective was central to the Martha’s Vineyard presentation. Lonnie Ali joined Best and creator, showrunner and executive producer Ben Watkins for a conversation moderated by award-winning journalist Joy Reid. Together, they explored the emotional responsibility of telling Ali’s story, the importance of historical authenticity and the cultural significance of introducing his life to another generation through a scripted series.
Best leads a formidable ensemble that includes Omari Hardwick, Dana Gourrier, Amin Joseph, Kai Parham, Michael Ealy and Giovanni Ribisi.
Behind the scenes, the scale of the creative partnership reflects the importance of the material. Watkins leads the series through Blue Monday Productions, with Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, Authentic Studios, Roc Nation, Polygram Entertainment and Grace: A Storytelling Company among the companies bringing the project to the screen.
Lonnie Ali serves as an executive producer alongside Watkins, Elizabeth Raposo, Corey Salter, Marc Rosen, Matthew Gross, Aiyana White, Jeff Augustin, Owen Shiflett, Michele Anthony, Boyd Muir and Josh Wakely. David Blackman and Stefano Agosto serve as co-executive producers.
