Tribeca at 25: The Biggest Moments From the First Four Days of the 2026 Festival

The 2026 Tribeca Festival is only four days in, but the festival’s 25th anniversary edition has already delivered an impressive mix of star power, world premieres, live performances, industry conversations, and unforgettable reunions that have transformed New York City into the center of the entertainment world once again.

Founded by Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal in the aftermath of September 11, Tribeca has spent the past quarter century evolving into one of the most influential cultural festivals in the world. This year’s milestone celebration has embraced that legacy while showcasing the future of film, television, music, and storytelling.

The festival officially opened on June 3 with one of its biggest events of the year: the world premiere of HBO’s Earth, Wind & Fire documentary, directed by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson. The evening brought together music legends Philip Bailey, Verdine White, Ralph Johnson, Black Thought, Flavor Flav, Chuck D, Jimmy Jam, H.E.R., and numerous industry figures before culminating in a live performance by Earth, Wind & Fire and The Roots at the historic Beacon Theatre.

The opening night celebration immediately set the tone for what has become a star-filled first week.

Day 2 continued the momentum with an eclectic lineup of premieres, conversations, and special events across the city. Tribeca’s commitment to storytelling across multiple disciplines was on full display as filmmakers, actors, musicians, journalists, and creators gathered to celebrate both established voices and emerging talent.

By Day 3, the festival reached another level.

Global icon Madonna made headlines with the world premiere of Confessions II, an ambitious cinematic companion piece tied to her forthcoming album. Following the screening, the music legend sat down with Anderson Cooper for an exclusive conversation that quickly became one of the festival’s most talked-about events.

Film history also took center stage as Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, Paul Schrader, and Jodie Foster reunited for a special 50th anniversary celebration of Taxi Driver. Moderated by W. Kamau Bell, the event gave audiences a rare opportunity to hear directly from the creative team behind one of cinema’s most influential films.

Elsewhere, Emilia Clarke and Édgar Ramírez attended the world premiere of Next Life, while Vera Farmiga appeared in support of The Leader. Storytelling Summit programming welcomed acclaimed actress Myha’la, while conversations across the festival explored the future of film, television, journalism, and digital media.

Day 4 proved equally impressive.

Reality television fans packed the OKX Theater at BMCC for a special Survivor 50 panel featuring fan favorites Cirie Fields, Rob Cesternino, Jonathan Penner, Kyle Fraser, Kamilla Karthigesu, and Teeny Chirichillo.

One of the day’s most celebrated moments came during the world premiere of Happy Hours, which reunited Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson on screen for the first time in years. The premiere also welcomed Constance Wu and Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Norah Jones, who composed the film’s score.

Paul Rudd attended the world premiere of Rain Reign, while comedy legends Bob Odenkirk and David Cross reunited for Bob and David Climb Machu Picchu. Josh Gad appeared for the premiere of Time Warp, and Alexis Bledel attended the premiere of Ponderosa.

The festival’s growing industry presence was also evident through Storytelling Summit conversations featuring Josh Safdie, Rebecca Miller, Zach Woods, and Jane Wickline, providing filmmakers and creators with direct access to some of the industry’s most respected voices.

The day concluded with the world premiere of the animated short Apart, attended by Whoopi Goldberg, Spike Lee, and filmmaker Pola Maneli, adding another memorable moment to an already packed schedule.

What has become clear through the first four days is that Tribeca’s 25th anniversary is not simply a celebration of its past. It is a showcase of where storytelling is headed next.

From Questlove and Earth, Wind & Fire opening the festival with music history, to Madonna unveiling new work, to the Taxi Driver reunion, to Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson’s long-awaited reunion, Tribeca has successfully blended nostalgia, innovation, and cultural relevance in a way few festivals can.

With several days still remaining, the first week of Tribeca 2026 has already delivered enough memorable moments to stand among the strongest starts in the festival’s history.
